Wakeboard Ropes vs. Water Skis Ropes

Differences in Wakeboard and Water Ski Ropes

Whats the Difference Between a Wakeboard Rope and Water Ski Rope?  Also, can you use your Water Ski Rope and Handle for Wakeboarding?

Well, first of all, there are two main differences we will discuss.  Let's start with the handle size and grip.  A Wakeboard Handle will usually be 2-3 inches larger allowing for an easier handle pass behind the back.  Next, the Wakeboard Handle material has progressed allowing the rider to go glove free.  Made from enhanced materials the handles are designed to not only give you a comfortable grip but also allow for advanced tricks.  The Water Ski handle will be smaller, usually around 11-13 inches.  They could be made from a rubbery material that might call for a glove.  Certain Water Ski Handles do have comfort in mind but most are aiming for grip.

Next up are the Wakeboarding Ropes and Water Ski Ropes.  The main difference is the elasticity of the ropes.  You can use a water ski rope for wakeboarding, but the advanced riders will want to stay away from doing this.  A water ski rope will have more stretch in the line giving 1-3 percent depending on the load.  The Wakeboard Ropes made out of spectra material will have virtually zero stretch allowing for a consistent ride.  This makes advance inverts and spins easier and more predictable.  There are also T handles for wrapped wakeboarding tricks.

If your just starting out wakeboarding we suggest to use your water ski rope until you start doing wake jumps.  At that point you should look at upgrading to wakeboard rope and handle.  Thanks for checking us out.
