As a background, I typically ride my road bike for triathlons and typically ride in the 10- to 20-mile range. The fit of my triathlon shorts often leaves me quite sore at the end of longer rides, so the BN3TH pouch in the North Shore Chamois had me quite intrigued. I could not be happier with the purchase.
Later this summer, I'm joining some friends for an all-day ride, and I wanted something with good padding and a pouch. The North Shore Chamois seems to be the only option on the market. Yet the description of the product is accurate, and the shorts are to be used as a base layer rather than stand-alone shorts. My solution is to use a basic pair of compression shorts (Baleaf Men's Compression Workout Shorts) as the outer layer.
The combination is the ideal blending of comfort and modesty. The Baleaf shorts are long enough to cover the chamois and served effectively as the privacy panel. The effect is to maintain the comfort from the BN3TH pouch while providing a look that is closer to traditional road-bike shorts. My wife signed off with her assessment there isn't anything to the look that is any more immodest than what you typically see in the cycling community, and I am very happy with the comfort they provide on long rides.
I’ve worn these 2 times. The fit is very comfortable. The chamois could be a little more plush but it works. When I took them off after the 2nd ride the little rubber dots that are on the inside of the waistband were stuck to me vs the waistband. I washed them in warm water and line dried them. I would expect better quality from a $65 pair of shorts.
